Choosing which exterior painting will be suitable can be a little complicated due to the variety of surfaces that your home has like wood shingles, clapboard and aluminum siding, cedar shakes, tar shingles, brick, stucco, concrete block, and old paint. Every type of surface has an exterior paint that is suitable only to it. If you have a combination of these surfaces at home, you need to be very careful on the kind of exterior painting you are using. Painting outside is more difficult as compared to interior painting because rust, cracks, mildew and other problems usually occur more outside. Exterior paints contain more resin and pigment. So they are usually more expensive. Latex exterior paints dry faster and are easier to apply. You can wash it with simple soap and water. Alkyds are very durable but they are difficult to work with. You need to use solvents to clean brushes and trays when you use them.

Or you may simply feel like giving your house a new look. Do not rush through the process. Explore various options in terms of shades and paint bases. You also need to consider your budget. Before choosing the exterior colors, you need to keep in mind various factors. Would you want a dark exterior or light one? Are you in sync with your neighborhood? It is better to be at par with the neighborhood and not stand out. Is the wall color compatible with the fixed fixtures like roof, deck or brick? Once you zero in on the color, you need to get people who will do the job well. You have to be extremely careful about how you paint your exterior. It gives the first impression about your house. Make sure you use the right tools for the job. You need a good quality roller and a brush. Acrylic or nylon brushes are the best ones for the job. You can do the job yourself or hire people to do so. It all depends on the budget you have in mind. Even if you hire people, it is good idea to supervise their work so that you do not need to redo it. Remember, when you spend so much money over labor for exterior painting, it is important that your job is well done and that your home looks ravishing at the end of the painting procedure.
